Aerotrope are providing aero-structural design services to Astigan’s High Altitude Pseudo Satellite project.
Astigan Ltd was established in 2014 and is owned to 51% by the Ordnance Survey. The high altitude aircraft with a wingspan of 38m and weighing 149kg (including a payload of up to 25kg) will be deployed at 67,000 ft altitude, in order to combine the constant eye-in-the-sky presence of a satellite with accurate 3D mapping.
This technology will not only aid in the upgrading of the UK’s infrastructure, it could also benefit emerging technology areas such as future self-driving vehicles and other 'smart city' applications.
